- When you call our number you will speak directly to a Companion.
After business hours:
- You will get an answering service.
- The answering service will ask for your first name and phone number.
- The answering service will notify the on-call Companion who will call you back within 15 minutes.
- If you do not want to leave your name, that is OK. As long as you will pick up the phone when we call you.
24-Hour Crisis/Response Line
The OCRCC operates a 24-hour crisis/response line (1-866-WE LISTEN (935-4783)) for female and male survivors of sexual violence, their friends and family members. This service is free and confidential.
Trained male or female volunteers called Companions answer this line and provide support. All Companions receive 63 hours of training before answering the crisis/response line.
We have two Companions available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The way to reach us is by calling the Center’s 24-hour crisis/response line (1-866-WE LISTEN).
If you are a survivor of sexual violence, friend or family member and you call our 24-hour crisis/response line we can:
- Talk with you over the phone.
- Meet with you face to face.
- Provide emotional support.
- Accompany you to the hospital, law enforcement, or through the court system.
- Provide specific information about laws.
- Provide referrals to support groups and individual therapy.
- Help you find reading material.
- Answer questions about the healing process.
We have both female and male Companions. If you reach a Companion that is of the opposite gender, you can request a Companion of the same gender. Every male Companion has a back-up female Companion in order to provide this option to female callers. Male callers may have to make an appointment to speak with a male Companion.
Interpreter Services
The Orange County Rape Crisis Center provides Interpreter services for Spanish-speakers who call its 24-hour Crisis/Response Line. To access these services, call the crisis/response line at 1-866-WE-LISTEN (935-4783) and leave your first name and phone number.
A Companion and Spanish-speaking Interpreter will return your call within 15 minutes.
